This week’s installment in the Getting to know… series features Candace Hall Slaminski.
The goal of this series is to introduce you to the LLAW Executive Board and get you thinking about volunteer opportunities within your association.
- What is your current role with LLAW?
Grants Chair
- What past roles have you had with LLAW?
Treasurer; Archives Chair; Government Relations Chair; UW-Milwaukee Library School Liaison
- Briefly describe your current role and aspects you find most rewarding.
In my current role I am responsible for publicizing the grant funds available to the membership for professional development and growth opportunities. My favorite part of this role is definitely being able to help support members’ professional development goals when their own organizations may not be able to fully. I’m especially proud of how our board stepped up during COVID and increased the grant funding dollars available when organizations were halting spending. We were able to help more people during that time.
- Why do you feel it is important to volunteer with LLAW?
Our organization may be small, but we’re a close, supportive, and smart group. Volunteering with LLAW has allowed me the opportunity to meet and learn more about and from my colleagues in other organization types as well as other cities. Being a part of LLAW has also supported my growth in my own career through education and networking. I feel it’s important to give back to LLAW to continue the strong support of current and future leaders in our industry.
